At the Rink by Heather Z Scraps

When the lakes freeze over for the winter, it’s time to trade the paddles for some blades. Instead of gliding across the water in a kayak or canoe, it’s time to glide across the ice on skates. At the Rink celebrates this fun, family-friendly winter activity with a cheerful frosted color palette and plenty of pops of fun. At the Rink comes with everything you need for a fun-filled day of skating: gloves, ice skates, snowflakes, snow-colored trees, ponds, an indoor skating rink, and plenty of boys and girls to skate with. There are cozy papers full of snowfall, hand-knit motifs, and playful patterns, frosty semi-solids to provide the perfect backdrop for your photos, and six bold alphas to construct the perfect title. The only thing this kit is missing is some hot cocoa for taking a break. So pour yourself a cup while you settle in to scrap another fun day of skating on the ice with At the Rink.

Time to get back on that "Creative Train" in 2023 !!

After a very disappointing ending to 2022 ... I have decided to focus on what brings me joy. And that is the creative side of my life. I lost my job 10 days before Christmas .... yeah put a big red bow on that !!  lol !!  My creative outlet saved my sanity during that time. From now on I am going to make time for some creative outlet time. It is a necessity.

I am becoming more involved in the creative team that I am on. And will do some advertising on here for that designer as well.

I will also be posting my layouts and my creative creations. Now they won't all be digital layouts ... I also got a Cricut machine back in 2020 for my wedding anniversary present and I am loving all the creations I have made so far. So look forward to seeing those shared here as well.

And in addition to my creative side there will be my original "Blogging" side coming out as well. This is a great outlet to just share happiness, joy, and disappointment of everyday life. I don't sugarcoat anything ... I am about as real as it gets. I don't try to make my life look picture perfect because it is not. I am real ... and I think that is what people need to really get back to is being more real. We are always so worried how we are perceived by other people. I can say I really don't care what others think. I am putting two feet on the floor and taking one step at a time like everyone else. The world is a different place after the last few years. So we all have to change as well ... even if we didn't want to.

Off to tackle something creative !!!  See ya on the flipside !!!!

Have you visited PIXEL SCRAPPER yet? Be sure to visit one of my favorite go-to websites !!!

I found Pixel Scrapper when I joined a creative team for a digital designer and was looking for an open gallery to showcase my layouts. I had no idea how much this little corner of the web would completely change my daily creative habits. I started digital scrapbooking after a vacation in 2008. That creative obsession led to joining forces with another creative scrapper and starting a digital design business of our own. After several years we both went in different creative directions and moved onto other business ventures. Just recently over the last year when the pandemic hit, I started to focus on creating some freebie items again. I found some amazing designers who had commercial use items here for download and I started logging on daily to get my five free images. I built up a nice little stash and started working with some of those items to see what I could create. Those few commercial use items that I worked with from this site jump started a creative explosion in my world and a necessary distraction from what was going on around us and globally.

I finished one whole vacation book that I had been trying to finish for 10 years. I relaunched my blog and started offering up freebies to see what kind of attention I could drum up. I got a lot of wonderful comments and even my layouts garnered some extra added attention. I was hooked …. and it was all thanks to Pixel Scrapper!!! I started browsing the page kits section which can be found here:  https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/browse/kits . And then I got a link to download an entire kit for free. There was no way I was going to pass that opportunity up. The toughest part was trying to decide what amazing kit to get. And at that point I started making a personal wish list of all the kits I wanted from this site.

Pixel Scrapper has everything any creative individual would need. First, the community is amazing. I always become creatively distracted when I log on and see the gallery page. The members comments are kind and their words make you feel positive about your work knowing others enjoy them as much as you do. And then I always must log in and pick up any new commercial items that catch my eye. Like I said it has become a daily obsession. I can share my own layouts and creativity and be inspired by others as well. I have also for a few years got into the Project Life obsession. There are so many resources here at Pixel Scrapper as well for that. I am currently using some in my Project Life for 2021 right now.

I recently got a Cricut machine as a gift and I have also used some commercial use items to cut out on cards and personal little items I have made for myself here at home. There are so many things you can find here at Pixel Scrapper that will get your creative juices flowing. If you are looking for an inspiring place to find kits and items to jump start your creativity, then this is the place to be. I hope you find the creative spark you are looking for. And if you have any questions the members here are kind and extremely helpful. Be sure to drop by the forum section and look at all the information there is available. This is in my opinion, one stop shopping for my creative habit and I am sure in time it will be yours as well.

Suprise !! A free snowman file !!!

So I have been creating like crazy with my Cricut lately. And I am literally obsessed with buying up crafting supplies at the Dollar Tree. So I have had this white pillar candle in my stash and I finally figured out what to do with it !!

So, I have packaged up this file as a freebie if anyone wants to use it.

I duplicated the button image to create the three buttons at the bottom. If you use a shorter candle or want to use more buttons you can do that. I also used a ribbon from the Dollar Tree to finish it off. I am just so thrilled at how this turned out. What a cute little decoration to place with all your other decorations for Christmas or even to create one as a gift for a friend or a neighbor. It is very inexpensive to make so feel free to make one for yourself or someone else.

The files included in this zip file is an .svg, .png, and a .psd layers file. If you need another file conversion feel free to contact me.

Always thankful word art

Well it has been a few weeks since I have checked in. I have been doing my best to keep busy and stay creative as a much-needed distraction from the real world. I have been working with my Cricut machine a lot more lately and doing a lot of crafting. I am becoming very comfortable now with my machine and no longer want to send it flying out of the window. (maybe I will blog another day about my “learning experiences”)

Right now, I am obsessed with word arts and .svg files. So, I decided to make one of my own as a freebie for all of you. And since we are into November already (*gasp*), I thought I would do something along the lines of being thankful since Thanksgiving is right around the corner.

Now, I know some of you will be quick to say … “I don’t have a Cricut, Sillouhette, or some type of crafting machine!”  Well, I am also offering this file up as a word art file that any digital scrapper could insert into a beautiful themed layout.

The files I am offering are:  .dfx, .eps, .png, .svg, and .psd. The .psd file is in both a flattened image to use as is, or the wording is in layers so you can change it up with a color fill or place a paper overlay on it. The choice is up to you.  The images are very large in size. The original size I created the file in was 12 x 12 inches. The finished size is a little smaller but should be used without any issues.

**Download link at the bottom of the post**

This beautiful word art was created using a font which I have purchased commercially. Commercial use fonts aren’t usually required when someone creates something to be given away for free, but I wanted my readers to be aware that I do have a commercial use license to use the font for any design purposes.

I hope to have many more things created for you in the coming weeks. I just can’t tear myself away from crafting stuff for myself all over my house. I will be sure to showcase some of the items I have made for any to see. I hope you enjoy the word art/crafting file I have created for you, and I hope you continue to follow my blog and my Facebook page for many more freebies.

I'm BAAAACK !!!!!!

So, my last blog post here (and on my Facebook group page) was somewhere around 2017!!!  WOW!!! I didn’t realize I have been technically “gone” from the blogging digi-world for so long. SO MUCH has changed in my little corner of the world.

Back in 2017 I was just an old married lady with 3 kids, whom have all grown up … the youngest just turned 21 this year!!  BUT …… the one thing I have been waiting for what seems like forever was to become a grandparent.  I became a “Mimi” for the first time on January 27, 2020.  My amazing grandson made his debut into the world earlier than expected. He was only 1 pound 3 ounces when he was born. Now, if you need a visual as to how big that really is (or isn’t). Pick up your television remote …. there you go. He was no bigger than that. Now he is over 12 pounds and proving everyday that he is the superhero we always knew he would be. You will see him a lot in some of my creative projects and scrapbook pages.

So, what else is new?  After over 15 + years in the graphic design business and loosing 3 jobs in 4 years due to small business not surviving; this girl went back to college!!!  Started in January of 2018 and I just graduated back in December of 2019 with a Healthcare Management Associates degree. And was due to walk for Graduation in May of this year … which unfortunately didn’t happen due to Covid.  Yeah, it really stinks … because me (at my age), worked my tail off graduating with honors and didn’t get that moment I wanted to have to walk across that stage. But I must focus on what is positive about this year and forget the rest.

The positive …. Yep #1 on that list is my amazing grandson. But also, too during this year while things were pretty much shutdown (and still is pretty much here), I got back to my creative roots!!!  I took the time and finished one whole vacation book and digitally scrapped the whole 119 pages. I have been trying desperately to finish one for years. And just never had the time to sit and focus on it …. thanks, Covid !?!?!?!?

But I also started digitally designing again. Made a custom gift for a great group of scrappers who “love the mouse” … *wink, wink* and gave it away as a prize during one of the speed scraps that were hosted to help us all regain our sanity in such a crazy time in this world. The reactions to it where astounding. I was thrilled at how it came out, and I decided then and there I would do much, much more.

My life has taken a much different turn and in addition to still running my freelance design business, I decided to focus on other creative avenue’s as well … time to jump back into the digital designing pool headfirst. It has been something I have wanted to do for such a long time and I have had a lot of time to focus on how I want to change things up, a new business name, and how I eventually want my business to grow in the future. The possibilities are endless !!!

So in between getting my WHOLE HOUSE organized (again, thanks Covid) … learning how to enjoy cooking and learning new recipes. My hubby surprising me with a Cricut machine for an anniversary gift. My creative life is back in full gear. And I am so incredibly excited. I know from past experience selling in the digiworld … it is a tough market. And I know my creative products aren’t ever going to make me a self-made millionaire. I am a realistic person who would much rather focus on the creative aspect and how it helps reduce my anxiety than how much money I can make off it. I am the most unmaterialistic person you will ever meet. Money doesn’t make you happy … at least in my neck of the woods it doesn’t. My family, good times, good food, finishing a creative project, or gifting someone something as a thank you is payment enough.

I am excited for those of you that have stuck around on this journey … and I hope you continue to enjoy my designs going forward. And please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments, or creative requests.

Bee creative & Bee kind,

Melissa
